Emeritus Faculty Technology Support Policy

The College of Education Technology Center is pleased to provide support for emeritus faculty members of the CoE. However, based on University policy, contracts, and resource constraints, the following limitations are placed on such support.

Policy

The normal guidelines for support of Emeritus Faculty, by the College of Education, are indicated below

For All Emeritus Faculty:

  • The College of Education Technology Center can only support University-owned equipment and University-provided services. This means, for instance, that The College of Education Technology Center cannot support personally owned computers/devices, home network connections, personal websites, 3rd-party software and peripherals, etc.
  • Regardless of faculty status, Administrative Policy Statement 47.2 outlines the Personal Use of University Facilities, Computers, and Equipment by University Employees: http://www.washington.edu/admin/rules/policies/APS/47.02.html.  This APS stipulates that University facilities, computers, and equipment are to be used to support its teaching, research, service, and administrative functions. Additionally, there should be no expectation of privacy with regard to the use of University communication technologies.

For Faculty Serving on Reduced Percentage Status with University Recapture:

  • Emeritus faculty who remain on the faculty for official CoE teaching and research purposes will continue to receive the same level of technology support as full-time faculty.

Fully Retired Emeritus Faculty*

  • UW-IT centrally provides access and support to core technology services like email, cloud services and personal web hosting for emeritus faculty.  Fully Retired Emeritus Faculty are encouraged to contact UW-IT support directly for assistance with these centrally provided services.
  • Most College of Education software licensing contracts and the CoE computer replacement program do not cover emeritus faculty members. As a result, COE purchased software must be deleted and licenses returned to the College. In addition, all technology purchased with University/College/Grant funds must be returned to the College of Education within 3 months of fully retired status.
  • Fully Retired Emeritus faculty members will receive limited technology support based on the availability of resources. For instance, we may defer providing support to emeritus faculty during the beginning of any quarter, and support requests from emeritus faculty members are prioritized below requests from active employees.

*Any special agreements about technology support for emeritus-status faculty will be negotiated by the Dean and needs approval by HR and will take into account issues of relevance to the College such as continuing teaching, service or research contributions.
