Biography
My name is Raishawn Swensen. I am currently working as a Public Policy Fellow with Pathwaves Washington. I have been involved in early childhood education since my daughter was born in 2017. When my daughter was four, we co-wrote and published a book titled “I Want to Be Like Her”.
My goal is to further my education and research on early education in Black and Brown communities while amplifying the voices that have long been marginalized by the education and policy system. I believe that Black and Brown children deserve a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn and thrive, and that the educators teaching them deserve access to high-quality professional development and education, along with a living wage. I hope to one day receive a scholarship to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Washington to continue my pedagogical work in this field.
