University Primary School children in the Col. Wolfe classroom are able to control an MRI scanner twice a week to study live chicken embryos as they develop. The project, run by a collaboration which includes the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Project SEARCH (a U. Ill. science outreach program), the College of Veterinary medicine, and the University's Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Larboratory, allows students to control an MRI scanner and study the developing chicken embryos without causing them harm. The UPS students are the youngest in the project, which includes several other regional schools. See the cover story in the April 4, 1996 edition of "Inside Illinois," the University's weekly newspaper.
