We have tried to summarize good practices and recommendations<br \/>\nfor people looking for guidance as they setup their new work environment.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you start<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Telework Readiness: Before you start you and your team need to feel confident this will be a good fit. Working from has several advantages, but it also adds new challenges you will need to be prepared to solve\n<ul>\n<li>Working independently: More structured, deadline driven tasks are easier to define when working remotely.<\/li>\n<li>Home work environment: You need to be able to setup an appropriate work environment, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Appropriate technology: Be sure your internet connectivity is appropriate not only to access the files and documents you may be working with, but also to remotely communicate with your team using video conference if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Comfortable workstation. Having a good place to sit and concentrate to do your work is critical for your success<\/li>\n<li>IT Support: Keep in mind that there may be limitations to the support you can receive remotely. You should feel comfortable troubleshooting some of your local issues, and following directions for remote assistance when needed. Our IT department will not be able to help with technologies we do not provide (home internet, custom computers, etc.). <a href=\"https:\/\/itconnect.uw.edu\/work\/working-remotely\/\">UW IT Resources<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Telecommuting agreement: Talk with your supervisor\/manager to check if this is an agreeable work arrangement, and to define the rules and conditions to make this a successful and productive opportunity. <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/policies\/telework\/\">UW HR teleworking policies<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Agreed work schedule<\/li>\n<li>Acceptable use and storage of protected or confidential information<\/li>\n<li>Expectations for required team meetings, or on-location contact with customers<\/li>\n<li>Availability expectations during core business hours<\/li>\n<li>Ongoing communication regarding expected outcomes <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Productivity Tips<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Designate an \u201coffice\u201d space<\/li>\n<li>Stick to a Schedule<\/li>\n<li>Remember to take breaks<\/li>\n<li>Stay connected to your team\n<ul>\n<li>Remotely: Use collaboration and communication<br \/>\ntools (don\u2019t rely on e-mail only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Physically: Try to attend team meetings, lunch,<br \/>\netc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Keep your technology up-to-date<\/li>\n<li>Have a to-do list<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working from home is an increasingly common practice for educational institutions.
