{"id":5332,"date":"2023-02-16T19:01:05","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T19:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/?p=5332"},"modified":"2023-02-16T19:01:20","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T19:01:20","slug":"doctoral-education-in-social-science-and-the-meanings-of-social-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/doctoral-education-in-social-science-and-the-meanings-of-social-justice\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctoral education in social science and the meanings of social justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Carolina Guzm\u00e1n-Valenzuela, director of the PhD in Education at the Universidad de Tarapac\u00e1 (Chile) and Dr. Patrick Sachew, dean of the Bremen International Graduate School in Social Science (Germany) shared their experiences on how their specific context shaped their practices. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carolina explained that the deep inequalities of the Chilean higher education system, manifested in the high centralization of the country and big difference between rich and poor, have been determinant in the design of the doctoral program.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Universidad de Tarapac\u00e1&#8221; is located in a border zone, 2000 kilometers away from Santiago, close to the limit of Per\u00fa and Bolivia, where there is in an important percentage of immigrant people and indigenous Aymara people.
