In this context, the next generation of\u00a0researchers needs more than traditional research skills. They need to prepare\u00a0themselves to work in many sectors of society post\u2013PhD. Therefore, in addition\u00a0to acquiring traditional research skills, doctoral students also need to\u00a0formulate clear career goals, be introduced to a variety of academic and nonacademic\u00a0career possibilities, and learn skills needed for managing post-PhD\u00a0careers. They need to become versatile and equipped with transferable and\u00a0translational competencies. Sets of workshops or training programs for\u00a0doctoral students, known as \u201cprofessional development,\u201d are aimed at helping\u00a0these students transition into professional careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nerad, M.
