In the course of \u00a0one year\u00a0of a multi-method study we evaluated the international activities of two pairs of interdisciplinary\u00a0science PhD programs in the U.S. and Germany that had established program-level international\u00a0components. The guiding research questions were:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 What were the programs doing to foster international cooperation?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> \u2022 What did faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students expect from program level international cooperation?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> \u2022 How did faculty, postdocs and students experience participation in the international component of their doctoral programs?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> \u2022 What were the hurdles for successful international cooperation?
