She is currently working on her dissertation to investigate the institutional rationale behind establishing self-sustaining master\u2019s programs in public research universities, and student motivations to join these programs. Love\u00a0is a PhD student in Higher Education at the University of Washington. His research is focused on the academic, social and professional experiences of students of color at predominantly white institutions through student engagement and retention-based initiatives. Specifically, he is interested in examining how service learning and role-model mentorship models impact the educational attainment of students of color in post-secondary\u00a0education with respect to equity and access, recruitment, retention and achievement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/elba.moise@gmail.com\"><b><strong>Elba Moise<\/strong><\/b><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Elba2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4763\" src=\"http:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Elba2.jpg\" alt=\"Elba2\" width=\"162\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a>Elba earned her bachelors degree in Psychology from St. Edward\u2019s University in Austin, Texas, and then a master\u2019s of Public Health degree with a Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Elba is currently a third year PhD student in Multicultural Education at the University of Washington, Seattle. Her research interests include access to higher education, identity development, graduate teaching assistants, inclusive\/equitable learning environments, critical pedagogy as a means of transformational learning, and dialogic practices for working effectively across difference. Her current research examines the intersecting racialized and teaching identities of Graduate Teaching Assistants of Color at predominantly White institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/JIM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1459\" title=\"JIM\" src=\"http:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/JIM-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Jim<\/strong> is involved in development and editing of research grants, publications and web content. \u00a0He is also involved with marketing and contributes to NIH sponsored research capacity-building efforts in Latin America by supporting grant writing and publications with the Latin American Brain Injury Consortium. \u00a0He has 30 years experience in research administration and has helped raise over $100 million for neuroscience research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Alumni<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rchiappa@uw.edu\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Roxana Chiappa<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/roxCIRGE.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4701 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.education.uw.edu\/cirge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/roxCIRGE-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"roxcirge\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Roxana <\/strong>\u00a0received her PhD\u00a0 in Higher Education in May 2019. Her dissertation analyzed the effects of social class of origin on the career of doctorate holders in Chile.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Currently, Roxana is working on an international comparative analysis of the career of doctorate holders in emerging economies. She teaches finance, public policy, assessment and evaluation, and organizations and administration. Her research focuses on higher education finance and public policy, specifically performance funding, student loan debt, state policy adoption, and \u201cfree\u201d college\/Promise programs. She studies the impact of local and state policies on student access and college completion and is particularly interested in outcomes for historically underrepresented populations (e.g. students of color, lower SES).
